Shaping is the ability to rearrange things and to imbue them with new qualities.[1] The shaping power is different in each of the Five Kingdoms, called shaping techniques or disciplines.
Almost everyone has at least a little shaping talent. Having absolutely none is less common than having a lot. People who come from Earth have more shaping potential than the average citizen born in the Outskirts. In addition, people who come to the Outskirts voluntarily from Earth, rather than by accident or compulsion, tend to have far greater ability than most. These people are much more likely to develop more than one kind of shaping talent, and those talents tend to be unusually strong. But the abilities take longer to show up.[1]
Shaping Techniques
Shaping techniques, also called shaping disciplines, are the forms of shaping that correspond to a certain location. Each shaping technique can only function in its native location, with the exception of Junction City, where all shaping powers can function to a certain degree.
| Technique/Discipline | Location |
|---|---|
| Shaping | Echolands |
| Shaping | Sambria |
| Enchanting | Elloweer |
| Tinkering | Zeropolis |
| Weaving | Necronum |
| Wayminding | Creon |

Trivia
- Although it could be dubbed as the "magic" of the Outskirts, shaping is not exactly magic in the strictest sense.
- Unlike the shaping techniques in the other kingdoms, the one in Sambria is just called "shaping" because its abilities are the closest to the original shaping.
- Raw shaping can function in any kingdom since the Outskirts is built in the echolands.
- Shapecraft can also function in any kingdom since it is an artificial version of raw shaping, but it does not correspond to any location.
